HONORS AND AWARDS

Delta Omega

Delta Omega is the national honorary society for public health professionals. Founded in 1924, it now has chapters at most schools of public health. Each year the chapter elects members from the student body based on scholarship.

Community and Belonging Leadership Award

Awarded to any Rollins graduate student, in good standing, who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to identifying and addressing inequities, creating avenues of access and/or advancing diversity and inclusion within and/or beyond Emory through their research, service and/or leadership activities. This individual should exhibit the highest level of intentionality in striving for equity and fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging that respects the multiple intersections of individual identities within our student body.

Emory Woman’s Club Scholarship

Established in 1998, the Emory Woman’s Club Scholarship provides support to a rising second year student who has contributed to women’s health, whose career goals align to women’s health, and who has financial need.

Rollins LEAD Award

The Rollins LEAD (Leadership, Engagement, and Development) Award recognizes students who are actively involved in service, student well-being, and leadership and professional development programs offered the Professional Advancement and Student Experience Center. Throughout their time at Rollins, students can accrue LEAD Points to meet participation thresholds associated with LEAD award levels. At graduation, students wear the following sashes associated with the following LEAD levels: Blue, White, and Gold.

James W. Alley Award

This award, in memory of James W. Alley, state health officer for Georgia from 1973 until 1990, recognizes the graduating MPH student who, in the eyes of the faculty and students, has provided the greatest service to disadvantaged populations during their career.

Livingston Scholars Fund

Established by the Livingston Foundation, Inc., the Livingston Scholars Fund recognizes the outstanding achievements of doctoral students in each of the Rollins School of Public Health doctoral programs. This award can be applied toward the cost of dissertation research, the purchase of a computer, books, journal subscriptions, travel to professional meetings, research or for professional association dues.

Eugene J. Gangarosa Award

This award, named after the former director of public health at Emory University, is presented to the graduating student who has demonstrated a creative approach to solving public health problems and who shows promise for outstanding service in the international arena.

Thomas F. Sellers Jr. Award

This award, named after the former chair of community health at Emory University, is presented to the Rollins faculty member who exemplifies the ideals of public health and who serves as a role model and mentor to their colleagues. The award is given to an individual who, like the man for whom it is named, represents the best qualities of collegiality.

Charles C. Shepard Award

This award, in memory of an outstanding scientist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is presented to the graduating student who is deemed by the faculty to have prepared the most scholarly thesis.
