DEGREE PROGRAMS

Master of Public Health

Students pursuing a Master of Public Health (MPH) are required to complete no less than 42 semester hours of credit and a required practicum. Prospective students must designate one of six departments when applying to the school: behavioral, social, and health education sciences (BSHES); biostatistics and bioinformatics (BIOS); environmental health (EH); epidemiology (EPI); global health (GH); or health policy and management (HPM). There are also joint MPH programs with the departments of Environmental Health and Global Health (Global Environmental Health, GEH) and the departments of Global Health and Epidemiology (Global Epidemiology, GLEPI). The number of required and elective courses within specific departments vary.

Master of Science in Public Health

Students pursuing a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) are required to complete 48 semester hours of credit and a required practicum. Prospective students must designate one of the following departments when applying to the school: biostatistics and bioinformatics (BIOS), epidemiology (EPI), or health policy and management (HPM). There are also joint MSPH programs with the departments of Global Health and Epidemiology, and MSPH programs in Data Science in biostatistics and bioinformatics (BIOS), environmental health (EH), and global health (GH). The number of required and elective courses within specific departments vary.

Master of Health Administration

Students pursuing a Master of Health Administration (MHA) are required to complete 40 semester hours of credit. Students participate in three on-campus residencies and various complex problems case study and mentoring sessions throughout the course of the program.

Doctor of Public Health

Students pursuing a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) are required to complete 60 credit hours and a required applied practice experience. Prospective students must designate one of the following concentrations when applying to the school: Applied AI and Data Translation, Implementation and Evaluation Science, Leadership for Public Health Policy, or Public Health Preparedness and Response.

Doctor of Philosophy

PhD programs are offered through the Laney Graduate School by the Departments of Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences; Biostatistics and Bioinformatics; Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health; Epidemiology; Health Policy and Management; and the Hubert Department of Global Health. Additionally, the Nutrition and Health Sciences program is an interdepartmental PhD program affiliated with RSPH.
